Overview

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who apply a broad range of competencies in a varied work context using some discretion, judgment and relevant theoretical knowledge. They may provide technical advice and support to a team.

  • Over 18 years old at the time of enrolment
  • Year 12 completion or successful completion of IAMA’s LLN (language, literacy and numeracy assessment)
  • Ability to demonstrate core skills and capabilities to a level appropriate to the course.

Course Structure

This course consists of 13 units of competency, 6 Core units and 7 elective units of competency. Students must successfully complete all units to gain their qualification. Training delivery consists of formal structured training and assessment of the practical application of the theoretical knowledge acquired through the structure training over the duration of the training program.

BSBCRT311: Apply critical thinking skills in a team environment

This unit describes skills and knowledge required to apply critical thinking skills to generate solutions to workplace problems in a team environment. The unit applies to individuals who are required to develop and extend their critical and creative thinking skills to different issues and situations. These individuals apply a range of problem solving, evaluation and analytical skills resolve workplace issues within a team context. BSBPEF201: Support personal wellbeing in the workplace

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to advocate for and feel empowered about personal wellbeing in the workplace. It involves developing and applying basic knowledge of factors that may influence wellbeing, both positively and negatively. The unit applies to those in a range of industry and workplace contexts, who work under direct supervision. It may also apply to learners who are preparing to enter the workforce. BSBSUS211: Participate in sustainable work practices

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to measure, support and find opportunities to improve the sustainability of work practices. BSBWHS311: Assist with maintaining workplace safety

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to assist with implementing and monitoring an organisation’s work health and safety (WHS) policies, procedures and programs as part of a small work team. The unit applies to individuals who have roles in assisting with maintaining workplace safety in an organisation. Individuals closely monitor aspects of work associated with the safe delivery of products and services, and they contribute to influencing safety in the workplace.

BSBXCM301: Engage in workplace communication

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to communicate (through written, oral and nonverbal form) in the workplace within an industry. This unit applies to a wide range of workers, but has a specific focus on the communication skills required for workers with limited responsibility for others. BSBTWK401: Build and maintain business relationships

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to establish, develop and maintain effective work relationships and networks through relationship building and negotiation skills required by workers. These workers may be within an organisation as well as freelance or contract workers. The unit applies to individuals with a broad knowledge of networking and negotiation who contribute to creating solutions to unpredictable problems. BSBLDR413: Lead effective workplace relationships

This unit describes the skills, knowledge and outcomes required to use leadership to promote team cohesion. It includes motivating, mentoring, coaching and developing the team and forming the bridge between the management of the organisation and team members. The unit applies to team leaders, supervisors and new or emerging managers where leadership plays a role in developing and maintaining effective workplace relationships. It applies in any industry or community context. At this level work will normally be carried out within routine and non-routine methods and procedures, which require planning, evaluation, leadership and guidance of others. Classroom based (Face to Face)

Face to Face classroom base IAMA Canterbury campus Minimum of 20 hours’ weekly study requires for 40weeks (1200 hours) Additionally, student is expected at least 10 hours of individual study per week not limited to research, learning activities and assessment activities utilizing the facilities and resources available at IAMA Assessment is based on competency (the ability to demonstrate specific skills) and is undertaken through a combination which may consist of classroom observation, discussion, case studies, role plays & written assignments and the work placement.

Online Distance based learning

When you study online with IAMA, you can:

  • Graduate with the identical qualification as an on-campus student.
  • Get comprehensive support from teachers via phone and email.
  • Access course material online.
