Certificate III in Individual Support is an Australian vocational qualification designed to prepare students for roles in the aged care, disability, and home and community care sectors

This qualification aims to provide students with the skills and knowledge needed to deliver person-centered support to individuals who require assistance due to aging, disability, or other reasons. It is suitable for those starting a career in the care sector or for current workers looking to formalize their qualifications.

  • Support and Care: Providing support to clients in their daily activities, including personal care, mobility, and social engagement.

CHCCCS031:Provide individualised support
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to organise, provide and monitor support services within the limits established by an individualised plan.
CHCCCS038:Facilitate the empowerment of people receiving support
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to facilitate the empowerment of people receiving support, to deliver rights-based services using a person-centred approach.
CHCCCS040:Support independence and wellbeing
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to support and enable people to maximise their independence and wellbeing.
CHCCCS041:Recognise healthy body systems
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work with basic information about the human body and to recognise and promote ways to maintain healthy functioning of the body.
CHCCOM005:Communicate and work in health or community services
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, management, and other industry providers.
CHCDIV001:Work with diverse people
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
CHCLEG001:Work legally and ethically
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to identify and work within the legal and ethical frameworks that apply to an individual job role.
HLTINF006:Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to follow basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control in own work.
HLTWHS002:Follow safe work practices for direct client care
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to participate in safe work practices to ensure their own health and safety, and that of others.

CHCAGE011:Provide support to people living with dementia
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide support for people living with dementia.
CHCAGE013:Work effectively in aged care
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to work effectively in an aged care work context. The unit covers meeting job requirements, complying with organisational requirements and working in an aged care sector context. This unit applies to individuals who work with older people in a range of community services and health contexts. Work performed requires some discretion and judgement and is carried out under regular direct, indirect or remote supervision.
CHCDIS020:Work effectively in disability support
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to work effectively in a disability support work context. The unit covers meeting job requirements, complying with organisational requirements and working in a disability sector context. This unit applies to individuals who work with people with disability in a range of community services and health contexts. Work performed requires some discretion and judgement and will be carried out under regular direct or indirect supervision.
CHCPAL003:Deliver care services using a palliative approach
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to provide care for people with life-limiting illness and those within the normal ageing process using a palliative approach, as well as end-of-life care. This unit applies to workers in a residential or community context. Work performed requires some discretion and judgement and is carried out under regular direct, indirect or remote supervision.
CHCDIS 011 Contribute to ongoing skills development using a strengths-based approach
CHCDIS011: Contribute to Ongoing Skills Development Using a Strengths-Based Approach equips individuals with the skills and knowledge to support and enhance the abilities of others by focusing on their strengths.
CHCDIS 012 Support community participation and social inclusion
Encourage active involvement in the community and enhance inclusivity through support and collaboration.

The assessment methods for this qualification typically include a combination of:

  • Written assignments
  • Practical demonstrations
  • Observations in the workplace
  • Case studies
  • Portfolios of evidence

For face to face classes (not including RPL)

  • Disposal tools free from IAMA
  • Field trips may incur a cost to the Learner. (going to library or business places)
  • Disposal Tools (Notebooks and pens)
  • Laptop supported from IAMA for practice and research in campus only.

    • There are generally no formal prerequisites for this course, but a basic level of literacy and numeracy is expected.

    • Some cases may need Working with Children Check or a similar background check due to the nature of the work.
