CHC50121 - Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care

Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care is an Australian vocational qualification designed to prepare students for leadership and advanced roles in the early childhood education and care sector.

This qualification is designed to equip students with advanced skills and knowledge required to manage and lead early childhood education and care services. It is suitable for those who have completed a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or have equivalent experience and wish to take on more senior roles in the sector.

  • Advanced Child Development: In-depth understanding of early childhood development theories and practices.
  • Curriculum Design and Implementation: Creating, implementing, and evaluating educational programs that cater to the developmental needs of children.
  • Leadership and Management: Skills in leading and managing teams, including staff supervision, mentoring, and professional development.
  • Health, Safety, and Nutrition: Ensuring high standards of health, safety, and nutrition in early childhood settings.
  • Family and Community Engagement: Building and maintaining effective relationships with families and the community.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Understanding and implementing regulatory and legal requirements, including the National Quality Framework (NQF) and Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF).
  • Inclusion and Diversity: Promoting inclusive practices and respecting diversity in early childhood education.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to foster and enhance the holistic learning, development and wellbeing of children from birth to 6 years of age.
CHCECE043:Nurture creativity in children
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to nurture creativity in children.
CHCECE044:Facilitate compliance in a children’s education and care service
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to facilitate legislative, regulatory and National Quality Framework compliance within an education and care service.
CHCECE045:Foster positive and respectful interactions and behaviour in children
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to support and respect children’s positive behaviour and interactions.
CHCECE046:Implement strategies for the inclusion of all children
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to support the inclusion of all children in education and care.
CHCECE047:Analyse information to inform children’s learning
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to gather and analyse information about children’s learning to inform practice.
CHCECE048:Plan and implement children’s education and care curriculum
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to plan and implement curriculum that meets the requirements of an approved learning framework.
CHCECE049:Embed environmental responsibility in service operations
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to embed sustainable practices in service operations.
CHCECE050:Work in partnership with children’s families
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work in partnership with families to provide appropriate education and care for children.
CHCPRP003:Reflect on and improve own professional practice
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to evaluate and enhance own practice through a process of reflection and ongoing professional development.
Elective units may vary depending on the provider, but often include topics such as:
BSBOPS502:Manage business operational plans
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to manage business operational plans. It applies to managers who are responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring operational plans to achieve organizational objectives.
BSBPEF502:Develop and use emotional intelligence
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop and use emotional intelligence to increase self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management in the workplace. It applies to managers who need to manage their own emotions and influence the emotions of others to achieve positive outcomes.
CHCDIV001:Work with diverse people
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. It applies to all workers.

The assessment methods for this qualification typically include a combination of:

  • Written assignments
  • Practical demonstrations

  • Portfolios of evidence

1 Year

For face to face classes (not including RPL)

  • Disposal tools free from IAMA
  • Field trips may incur a cost to the Learner. (going to library or business places)
  • Disposal Tools (notebooks and pens)
  • Laptop supported from IAMA for practice and research in campus only
    • Must be completion of CHC30121 – Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or equivalent experience is recommended.

    • Some cases may need a Working with Children Check or similar background check due to the nature of the work.

  • Family Day Care Coordinator

  • Early Childhood Education Advisor

  • Program Leader in early childhood settings
