About the Diploma

Learning from industry experts, your child care training will cover topics essential to your career in child care such as: understanding child development and learning, culture and diversity in the child care setting, health and safety for children and designing and implementing educational programs. In addition, you will gain exposure to leadership and management practices to support your future career progression.
Course information
The course is delivered full-time on campus and includes the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC50113) and Sage’s Child Care Leadership Program (BSBSS00043 Key Management Skill Set).
It will typically take 1-2 years for you to complete your studies and you should plan to have 15 contact hours per week for classes. You should also prepare for 8 -15 hours per week for individual study time. The types of assessment will vary, but can include demonstrations, knowledge tests, observations, case studies, reports, projects and presentations.

Work experience
One of the best parts about the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC50113) is the practical, hands-on experience you will get through our work placement program. Your “real world” exposure consists of a minimum 240 hours of industry placement at facilities such as creches, long day and early learning centres, giving you the confidence you need to start your career and achieve your goals.

Leadership training
The Sage Child Care Diploma not only gives you skills, knowledge and experience to become a top class child educator, but it also provides you with leadership and management training. The Childcare Leadership Program provides key learning themes including: leadership in the workplace, implementing an operational plan and promoting team effectiveness, to set you on path to more senior positions, including leadership and management roles in a variety of child care settings.
Your future career
So what does all this mean for your future career in child care? The Sage Diploma gets you qualified for an immediate start working with children in roles such as:
- Kindergarten Assistant

Many Diploma graduates also choose to further their careers by undertaking tertiary education to become a primary school teacher, or specialist teacher aide.
