Provide First Aid
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. This unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings
At the successful completion of this course you will be able to:
- Assess an emergency situation
Maintain the airway, breathing and circulation of an unconscious casualty - Administer First Aid for Minor Wounds & Apply Infection Control Procedures
- Manage a casualty with external bleeding
Manage a casualty suffering from shock
Administer First Aid for Burns & Electric Shock - Administer First Aid for Eye & Soft Tissue Injuries
- Manage a casualty suffering Near Drowning/Drowning
- Administer First Aid for Venomous Bites & Stings and Allergic Reactions
- Administer First Aid for Spinal Injuries & Fractures
- Determine Principles for Assessment and Movement of the Sick & Injured & First Aid
- Recording Requirements
Explain the legal and social responsibilities of a first aider - Determine first aid facilities and training requirements
HLTAID011 – Provide first aid
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
Specific licensing /regulatory requirements relating to this competency, including requirements for refresher training should be obtained from the relevant national/state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authorities.
This course is delivered in following way:
– Classroom based (Face to Face) (practical is essential to obtain the competency)
Face to Face classroom base IAMA Canterbury campus
6 hours per day
Additionally, student is expected at least 6 hours of individual study per week not limited to research, learning activities and assessment activities.
Assessment is based on competency (the ability to demonstrate specific skills) and is undertaken through a combination which consist of classroom observation, discussion, case studies, role plays & written assignments and the work placement.
There are no prerequisites for this first aid course.
